The beginning

Inspired by interest shown in local mountain biking through a petition in local bike shops, a well attended public meeting and the state government's release for public comment of the Tasmanian Draft Mountain Bike Plan - a committee of 8 was formed in October 2009 to investigate the idea of starting a mountain bike club in the north west region of Tasmania and to provide advocacy for more mountain bike trails in the area.

  2. What does this group's aims ? Social rides , races , land access issues ?

Please don't take this as being negative , just wondering .

AT the moment , I think a lot of things are handled quite well through pedalbite.com , and you might need to be careful of splitting the current statewide soapbox we have with this .

  4. The club's reason for being will no doubt be an evolving thing but at present we are looking at land access, especially Dial Ranges and will probably build up to races and social events, but it depends on what people want. (We're not actually a club yet - there is offical red tape stuff to be done first)

Re: pedalbite - this a forum for all of Tassie's mountain bikers and it is great and is used by riders from both the LMBC and the Dirt Devils and no doubt riders who don't belong to a club, all of which is cool. Both Dirt Devils and LMBC also have their own websites for more club specific info and this is what this site aims to be for us in the north west.

  5. Can you inform us all what the official word is with access to the Stubbs Rd trails . I missed the update on the LMBC site .

    Thanks , Ben .

  6. Thanks for your interest Ben. Access to the Stubbs Rd trails has been a bit of an issue for a while now but there is good news.

As you may know already, the main issue was that with the sale of the land bordering the road and the main access road being leased by Cradle Mt Water, there was no way to get in without trespassing.

Well, thanks to Nic Deka, access has been negotiated with Cradle Mt Water and we are now allowed to use their road. We owe Nic big time for setting this up and I hope that all users of this area will respect the boundaries of the now sold areas so that we can all continue to ride there without any dramas.
